
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle Part 1: Akaza’s Return will open in the largest number of Japanese theaters in the franchise’s history when it premieres on July 18, 2025. Toho, which distributes the film in Japan with Aniplex, confirmed an initial 452 theaters (393 regular + 59 IMAX theaters) via its X (formerly Twitter). Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Mugen Train, Japan’s current record holder for box office gross, netted $364.8 million domestically across an initial 403 theaters in its first release (Box Office Mojo, Toyokeizai). The latest re-release in May 2025 recorded 423 theaters (370 regular + 53 IMAX) (Official website). The compilation films To the Swordsmith Village and To the Hashira Training recorded 418 and 427 theaters, respectively (Oricon: 1, 2).
It’s not just in Japan where expectations are high for Infinity Castle‘s release, with Asa Suehira, Chief Content Officer of Crunchyroll, saying of the film’s global rollout:
“Since the huge success of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Mugen Train, the attention of theater owners around the world to anime has changed. Infinity Castle will also be released on an unprecedented scale. I think it will be a milestone movie for theatrical anime, so I think it is Crunchyroll’s responsibility to deliver solid results.“
Toho and Aniplex will distribute Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle in Japan starting July 18. Demon Slayer‘s official X (formerly Twitter) confirmed on June 30 that the first film will also be turned into a novel, set to be released on July 22. Sony Pictures and Crunchyroll will handle distribution globally, excluding Japan and select Asian territories.
An excerpt from the official Infinity Castle synopsis reads:
As the Demon Slayer Corps members and Hashira engaged in a group strength training program, the Hashira Training, in preparation for the forthcoming battle against the demons, Muzan Kibutsuji appears at the Ubuyashiki Mansion. With the head of the Demon Corps in danger, Tanjiro and the Hashira rush to the headquarters but are plunged into a deep descent to a mysterious space by the hands of Muzan Kibutsuji.
The destination of where Tanjiro and Demon Slayer Corps have fallen is the demons’ stronghold – the Infinity Castle.
And so, the battleground is set as the final battle between the Demon Slayer Corps and the Demons ignites.
